Hand dying fabrics is hard work! It has taken several days, but I have ready for sale more than 60 fabrics! They are so pretty, it makes them a pleasure to work with, just for the lovely colours.
Now photographing them is another problem altogether. I am an enthusiastic amateur photographer with fairly decent equipment, and I have some experience in various settings, but honestly! Getting accurate colours is really hard! I finally built myself a phone-booth sized lightbox, with a few bar lights with daylight-coloured bulbs, a handful of clamp-on lamps, also with daylight bulbs, and built it so that it can be mounted on a garment rack when needed, and collapsed flat for storage when not. It's working! I'm as proud of this as I am of my fabrics!
With the help of my new friend Mr. Lightbox, I managed to photograph all 62 fabrics in a couple of hours. That's pretty good! Mind you, they still require a bit of post-processing, like cropping etc., but I am confident that these beauties will be adorning my shop by the end of the day. Aahhh! Feeling accomplished!
My Lightbox. Made of foamcore, a garment rack, a handful of various lights, and duct tape. And it works! >Gleeful giggle< |
